How to Ship Lithium Batteries by Air Freight

Every day we ship a lots of cargo exporting from China to all over the world, including battery cargo. Today I’m gonna to share you how to deal with battery cargo by air.


Do you know battery type?

· Lithium Ion Battery / Lithium Metal Battery

e.g. battery in mobile phones




· Ni-H battery / Dry Battery  

e.g. Dry Batter in air conditioner remonte control  





· LEAD ACID BATTERY 
e.g. Battery in cars 




How to clarity different battery type / battery power?

Battery Power = Nominal Voltage(V) × Rated Capacity(mAh/1000)

During handling battery cargo, we need to know whether this kind battery is clarified as DG cargo by airline to be accepted or not. Blw battery type or battery packing are considered as DG cargo when shipping by air: 

1. Pure Batteries: UN3480, UN3090

2. Large powerful battery: Per Cell≧20Wh; Per Battery≧100Wh

3. Other battery type which airline clarify as DG cargo

Packing Requirements of battery by Air


1\\ Cells and batteries must be packed in inner packagings that completely enclose the cell or battery.

2\\ Cells and batteries must be protected so as to prevent short circuits. This includes protection against contact with conductive materials within the same packaging that could lead to a short circuit.

3\\ Related Battery Label must be sticked on the outsider of carton or packaging( Label size :120*110mm).



Documents requirements of battery by China main airport

Main airport such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing etc, It requires Certification for Safe Transport of Goods/ UN38.3 Test Report/ UN38.3 Test Summary, while in Hongkong airport, it request MSDS for checking.
